I know that many of you have been wondering for a very long time how the bottom of a hummingbird looks like, so I am honoured to provide an answer with this photo: it is beige.

A little female Sparrow in the back garden this evening, collecting nesting materials in the rain #chesterfield A Sparrowhawk made a big hit on a Pigeon a few gardens down and there are feathers strewn everywhere. And from death comes the chance at life. Sparrows are the prettiest of birds. #birdsofmastodon #birds

"Wir sind nur auf der Durchreise, ehrlich", sagt die Weißwangengans.
"Haben Sie mein Schaf gesehen?" fragt die Schafstelze.
This sweet little #chickadee that I see regularly in my yard, has a deformed beak. After googling it, I discovered this is a condition called #akd avian keratin disorder. It was recommended that I report it to a research group at the #USGS Alaska division. (Interesting since I live in MA).
#Birds with this disorder seem to have higher mortality rates, but some do ok. This one is seemingly ok at the moment. It looks worse for wear because I snapped this #photo while it was sleeting.

On a happier note, there are new arrivals every day at the Nature Sanctuary. Migration is in full motion. Some over-winter birds are changing behaviors to bulk up more for the flight north. New arrivals are searching for food sources. All of that means a near cacophony of songs and calls that are challenging to keep separate in my head. More Prothonotary Warblers have arrived, so we may keep a few despite the low water levels. Also seeing Brown Thrashers …
As a note you can track migration for your area using Cornell’s Migration Dashboard

Happy #WIPWednesday ! Here’s one of my many illustration #WIP (and the most recent one), featuring two jackdaws! I had this idea after a walk I went on with @lindenshieldarts to go see flowers in a small forest around some vineyards. We saw a lot of jackdaws too
I wonder if or when I’ll finish this illustration haha
#GutenMorgen Fediland.
Mir sind die Meisen ausgegangen.
Aber Krähen sind ja auch ganz niedlich. Oder?
