Why?
Because life on Earth is chemically wild, and most people never see it.

I combined my fondness for lotus flowers and mandalas in this latest work... https://peggy-collins.pixels.com/featured/white-lotus-mandala-peggy-collins.html

Theme: #Lotus flower (bleated)

Since it started as free day today, I was thinking of spriting a funyarinpa, but it turned out the theme is Lotus, so I'm spriting her instead. ;P
Edit: It occurred to me that I should say, the game series she is from has a *mature* rating. Generally for gore, but almost anything goes in this series. You have now been warned.

Fun #TrackDay today at #LagunaSeca run by the Golden Gate #Lotus Club. I had some good runs, in my #LotusElise Series 1 with Honda engine conversion. I first drove it here 23years ago... #CarPhotography
Yesterday’s Lotus Elite had a close 2+2 sister model, the Eclat, which featured a very similar body but also a conventional luggage compartment/boot/trunk in place of the Elite’s glass hatch. Heavy upgrades, including lots of Toyota parts, led to the Eclat being renamed the Eclat Excel, and then finally, as in the case of this example seen at the NEC Classic Car Show 2024, just Excel. The Excel was made until 1992, outliving the Elite by a decade
Today the Lotus 2+2 story continues with the Elite, produced between 1974 and 1982. The wedge-like design bore a family resemblance to that of its contemporary, the mid-engined Esprit, but it had a conventional front-engine/rear-drive layout. A large and luxurious car by Lotus’ then standards but still very light. The Elite had a glass hatch but if you didn’t want that, there was an alternative, of which more tomorrow. I promised @greg_harvey that I would do the Lotus Elan +2S, and here it is. Like the recently featured Lotus Cortinas, this used Lotus’ Ford-derived twin-cam engine. The +2 was a 2+2 four-seater, quite different to the standard Elan - perhaps working with Ford on Cortina saloons gave Lotus the idea of doing its own car with a pair of extra seats. This +2S was snapped at the NEC Classic Car Show, 2024, and has been extensively restored (see list).
Meet the Ford Cortina Lotus Mk2 (1967), successor to the Mk1 model I posted yesterday. The Mk2 mostly followed the same wildly successful formula as the Mk1, although the Lotus element was perhaps slightly diluted - the Mk2 was built at Dagenham alongside standard Cortinas, rather than going to Lotus for conversion, and the special Lotus rear suspension had already been dropped from later Mk1s. Pic - local classic car meet in Cambridgeshire, 2024.
Today, we’re back in the 1960s with Lotus. This is the Mk1 version of the Ford Cortina Lotus (usually referred to as the Lotus Cortina), seen here at last year’s NEC Classic Car Show. The Mk1 was introduced in 1963. The Lotus treatment included a special twin-cam version of the Ford Kent engine, bodywork strengthening and a more sophisticated suspension set-up than the standard Ford Cortina. Something of a legend. More in a similar vein tomorrow.
