2/2🧵: And I couldn't say it better than Wendy Joseph QC on whether #BobVylan's chant of "death to the #IDF" really constitutes a #hatecrime

"if it is an incitement to violence not against individuals but against an organisation, which is a lawful organisation in another country, big question mark, what is our jurisdiction over it".

Amen, I believe in the #ruleoflaw & until #nigelfarage becomes PM, our #supremecourt hasn't been bought yet.

Oh gods! The US Supreme Court is going to hear a case on the Constitutionality of conversion therapy bans. Given the Court's proven track record of ingnoring the rights of minorities, especially LGBT minorities, this is a looming disaster.

I was sent to conversion therapy by my parents when I was 12 and they found out I was trans. I lied to get out of it and hid and repressed myself for years because of it

As Heather Cox Richardson says, consider this, as you look at the Supreme Court's boosting of Trump's birthright citizenship position:

"The administration's announcement that it is terminating Temporary Protected Status for half a million Haitians, stripping them of their legal status, seems to echo the ancient laws saying only 'free white persons' can become citizens."

"For a long time now, the Republicans on the Supreme Court have been trying to relitigate the 20th century and destroy all of the progress made during the Civil Rights era. But that is old news. That’s a pre-Dobbs analysis and frame. The Republicans on the court have won their battle against the 20th century and have moved on.

They’re now trying to relitigate the 19th century and destroy all of the progress made during the Reconstruction era."

"In its ruling on Friday, the court’s usual six monarchists granted Donald Trump’s request to reexamine various nationwide injunctions preventing Trump and Stephen Miller from implementing their plans to revoke birthright citizenship to any American who doesn’t happen to be white."

The Nation · The Supreme Court’s Birthright Citizenship Ruling Is a 5-Alarm CatastropheIn Trump v. CASA, the court hands the president yet more unaccountable authority—and yanks us into a neo-Confederate legal nightmare.

"This ruling is yet another example of a pattern we have seen by the Roberts Court during the Trump administration, starting with the immunity ruling: Erecting ever more barriers against citizens seeking relief from invasions of their rights and reducing barriers against an over-weening, authoritarian executive."

"On Friday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court’s conservative majority took a slice out of the framers’ conception of the separation of powers, barring federal judges from entering so-called 'universal injunctions' — court orders blocking the executive branch from enforcing challenged laws and policies against anyone, even non-parties to the litigation, anywhere."

"Here is the crucial point.

'The Court's decision to permit the Executive to violate the Constitution with respect to anyone who has not yet sued is an existential threat to the rule of law.'”
