Returned from an expedition to the Lower Ice Lake ("Unterer Eissee") beneath Hallstätter Glacier #Dachstein #Austria with @rglueckler, Ulrike Herzschuh (both @awi) and Jakob Korneli (@unileipzig). We wanted to take lake sediment cores to reconstruct the vegetation development of the last c. 130 years.

We previously did some avalanche rescue training. Unfortunately, the snow and avalanche conditions prevented us from reaching our destination, and we had to return.

"#Succession" is a copy of "#TheOffice", only instead of portraying the mundane nature of a fucking job, it approaches the elites from the perspective of idolatry, and covers the gags with a sugary false realism. Succession is the wonderland of the entrepreneurial and crypto-freakish pretenders, but without wanting to seem like it. It is a love letter that they have buried under a supposed satire.

It's a pervasive rumor that "Succession" is based on media mogul Rupert Murdoch and family (supposedly when he divorced fourth wife Jerry Hall, she was banned from giving story ideas to the HBO show's writing team as part of the settlement). According to a new story from @TheAtlantic, the real-life drama is as Machiavellian and cutthroat as on screen. McKay Coppins interviewed second son James and his wife Kathryn, about being a Murdoch, Fox, Brexit, Trump, the family trust that blew everything apart, and the "Succession" connection. Story may be paywalled.
